This week’s discussion includes the remaining chapters 10-12 in Chronicling California. They address issues in the last half decade of the state’s history, mostly from the perspective of the continuing debates about who we are and which direction we should go as a state. These issues arise from the politics of protest the state experienced in the 1960 and 1970s and continue to inform our present. My suggestion for your big questions and discussion this week is to connect an aspect of these readings to the larger themes of this class. In a sense, this discussion is your final wrap-up. What is the question these readings leave you with and how does that question connect to what we have learned in this course? You do want to discuss this point in some detail using the assigned primary sources. You may also want to specifically reference the videos from last week. And find a current news article that addresses your question and discuss that source.
