A certain portion of a manager’s time has to be spent resolving issues and complications that are directly grounded in personality clashes. This time is in addition to all planned activity. As the time required for conflict resolution can be quite substantial in an organization, one might argue that this time needs to be built into a manager’s work schedule.
Based on your work experience, should a manager: (a) plan a certain percentage of her work days to “proactively anticipate and manage” such issues; or (b) should she deal with such issues on an ad hoc basis, as they are brought to her attention”? From a time management perspective, what are the pros and cons of each approach?
